The equation of Carnahan-Starling is an approximate equation of state for the fluid phase of the Hard Sphere model in three dimensions.

where:

  • is the pressure
  • is the volume
  • is the number of particles
  • is the Boltzmann constant
  • is the absolute temperature
  • is the packing fraction:
  • is the Hard Sphere diameter

(please check the equation)
