The thermal expansion coefficient, $\alpha$ is given by

$\alpha ={\frac {1}{V}}\left.{\frac {\partial V}{\partial T}}\right\vert _{p}$

where $V$ is the volume, $T$ is the temperature and $p$ is the pressure.
