Combining rules

The combining rules (also known as mixing rules) for binary mixtures are variously given by

Berthelot rule

$\epsilon _{ij}={\sqrt {\epsilon _{ii}\epsilon _{jj}}}$

Lorentz rule

$\sigma _{ij}={\frac {\sigma _{ii}+\sigma _{jj}}{2}}$
